Last Girl
As you might recall, on our first day in India, we had the tremendous opportunity to sit in circle with iconic feminist economist Devaki Jain. A constant theme throughout our first day was one of the primary tenants of Gandhian philosophy—that in order to create justice, one should do their work thinking of the person or child who is valued the least, who suffers the most, who comes in last. This theme of the “last girl” has resonated deeply with the Movement Makers. In this video, taken on our first day, Devaki Jain shares her thoughts on how the last person concept has helped create an ideological convergence.

Wonderful video clip highlighting Devaki Jain's wisdom and commitment to the last girl/woman. Having missed this part of the trip, the rest of the cohort and staff did a great job of sharing the conversation with Devaki Jain, but hearing part of it directly makes me feel as if I were there sitting in the circle with everyone.
