Maria is the first Executive Director of the Florida Immigrant Coalition, a successful and dynamic social movement organization that builds the connections, capacity and consciousness of its diverse membership. For close to three decades, she has strategically and creatively worked to defend basic human rights of low-income and migrant peoples at home and abroad. She co-founded or help establish half a dozen award-winning organizations. From foreign policy advocacy on South Africa and Central America to domestic organizing for quality housing and healthcare access at home, Maria brings principled and effective leadership that yields concrete results. She grew up in Puerto Rico in a multi-cultural family. She is a graduate of Georgetown University and the proud mother of Dante.

The Florida Immigrant Coalition is social movement entity comprised of 62 member organizations, including farmworkers, students, service providers, grassroots organizations and legal advocates, who come together for the fair treatment of all people, including immigrants. Our mission is to create the connections, consciousness and capacity for change so that we can all live, work and love without fear.
