Sanctuary for Families Shares Move to End Violence Vision with 100 Staff Members

On January 11, Sanctuary for Families held an all-staff meeting focusing on the vision of the Move to End Violence program as presented at the December 2012 Building Movement convening.  Sanctuary Movement Makers from Cohort 1, Dorchen Leidholdt, and Cohort 2, Archi Pyati, with Building Movement participant Brett Figlewski guided more than 100 members of Sanctuary’s dedicated staff through a lively discussion about the Move to End Violence initiative and our role in the movement to end violence against girls and women. We spent time reflecting on the three “pivots” we need to make as a movement and as an organization in order to be more effective in reaching our goals.

The feedback we received during and after the discussion was phenomenal. Sanctuary’s diverse and interdisciplinary staff told us that they are proud and excited to be part of the Move to End Violence initiative. We feel re-energized and eager to explore how Sanctuary for Families can further advance its goals of stopping gender-based violence.

Following on this incredible event, we have decided to create a standing committee within Sanctuary dedicated to further exploring where we think the movement to end violence should be heading, how our organization can enhance its leadership, and our own self-care and care for each other.  We look forward to providing additional updates from the committee over the next several months.
