Facilitated by Move to End Violence faculty Monica Dennis and Rachael Ibrahim this 6-week virtual series explores the following practices:

Locating Oneself: In this first week, storytellers Archi Pyati and Heidi Lopez to explore how “Locating Oneself” is an integral and necessary part of our liberation journey. It reconnects us to ourselves, our people, and our stories as a powerful form of cultural resistance and the basic building block to having deep relationships with others. Learn more about how this practice makes us more aware of how violence and oppression are woven into our lives – and how we can change it.

 

Expanding Narratives, Moving Beyond Single Stories: In week storytellers, Lorena Estrella and Nicole Matthews explore the dangers of “single stories”. Through storytelling of how “single stories” have harmed us, how the implicit bias that is fueled by one-dimensional narratives pervades our systems and institutions, and how to expand the narrative and recognize our biases so that we can interrupt violence and build collective power.

 

 

Choosing Vulnerability: Lupe Poblano and Alexis Flanagan discuss what it means to choose vulnerability and why it is necessary to connect with all of our emotions in order to be true to ourselves, make authentic connections, and be courageous. Reflect on and practice vulnerability as a powerful way to deepen relationships and strengthen resolve with others in the movement. 

 

 

 

Identifying Systems Power: Lynn Rosenthal and Andrew Sta.Ana join Monica and Rachael to analyze systems of power and understand the very real ways that these systems benefit or punish people based on their identities. Learn why it’s so important to locate the ways we each show up at the intersections of power and privilege, and how we can then use our privilege to shift these oppressive systemsReflect on and practice the importance of identifying root causes and contributing factors within power systems of a problem.

 

 

Levels of Racism: Policy powerhouses Kassandra Frederique and Eesha Pandit explore micro and macro levels of racism and how that impacts systems and structures. Learn why identity politics and intersectional approaches to social change matter, and how colorblind policies continue to perpetuate racism.Reflect on and practice discussing the levels of racism. 

 

 

 

Review and Reflection:Co-creators Monica Dennis, Rachael Ibrahim, and Trina Greene Brown come together to lift up the learnings from throughout this series and explore practices that are being integrated into individual leadership.
